What is this "religion"?

for a long time, i was convinced jehovah witnesses were just people preaching the word of god in a different way than other christians.

i was shown the real truth over the past few months.

i've been friends with this guy for over 5 years.

He hasn't been brainwashing her for years, that's absurd. It's not like he was raised as a JW or ever really and truly lived as one. He was at a weak point, was spiritually curious, was love-bombed by the JWs and then intimidated in a whirlwind. He's still at a point where he could go either way. No person is worth giving up on without even trying, especially since you love him and I'm sure he really does too. It's worth a try.

Mary Magdalene - Movie Review

so mrs cofty and i went to see the new movie last weekend on the gospel story told from the perspective of mary magdalene.. the first ten minutes are excellent and then jesus turns up and it's all downhill from there.

it was pope gregory who decided in 1591 that mary m was a penitent prostitute, even though the gospels contain no such reference.

was she the mary from whom seven demons were cast or was she just unlucky to share a name with a different mary?

Yup. My ultra-staunch (and also new-to-tech) JW mother has stumbled across this site twice recently, and instead of doing the 'right' thing and shutting it off while looking away in disgust, she lingers and moves on to other threads.

The increase in the Anointed Ones

to illustrate how the botchtower's groupies are losing brain cells...last year an elder told me some of the increase in the anointed is due to those who have been unfaithful and needed to be replaced.

when i was in first grade i knew that if i had 10 marbles and i lost one and a friend gave me a marble to replace the one i lost that i once again had 10 not 11 marbles.. jdubs are very good at not thinking..

It has ballooned and will continue to. There was even a story on here several years ago of a whole congregation in the US that went 'apostate' and started partaking, then was disbanded.

Beyond that, I wonder how many more that partake in private and aren't counted. I'm one of them, and I've read of others who do the same, because they don't want to put on airs or tacitly agree with WTs definition of what it means to be anointed.

according to scripture, god has a wife -israel.

he is her husband/husbandly owner.. the nation was cast off but jehovah said he would never leave israel.

that being said, jesus spoke of israel as a spiritual nation and the 144,000 to be picked from both israel and the nations (to fulfill the number) who were to be king priests with him.

You just answered your own question. Israel is still said to have God's favor, except now Gentiles are grafted in, not exclusively Israelites by birth.

on the local news last night it was reported that two kingdom halls in olympia wa were set fire to.

i wonder who has a grudge with those congregations?

unfortunately we know the jw"s eat this crap up and enjoy the "persecution.
